What caused you to get into pet sitting/dog walking?
From an early age, I have always been fascinated with animals, particularly dogs, and learning everything about them. For the Love of Dogs, LLC blossomed from the desire for a dog in an 11-year-old girl. Since we didn't have a dog at home, I would come home from school and walk the neighbor's two dogs for fun. Two years later, they had a litter of puppies and gifted one to me. That gift, Enkidu, helped turn my passion into a career. With the help of my parents, who graciously allowed me to pet sit out of our home during my teenage years, and our church community, who used me for their pet-sitting needs, it became apparent that my passion could become my livelihood.
What is the most fulfilling part of owning a pet sitting/dog walking business?
The most rewarding aspect of building For the Love of Dogs, LLC is the sense of community within the team and our clients. You will typically hear me refer to our team as the FTLOD, LLC family. One of my goals was to create a network of like-minded animal lovers who make our clients feel like their pets are staying with family when they travel, and I think we've achieved that!
What is the most challenging?
The most challenging aspect of owning For the Love of Dogs, LLC is growth, both within the scope of the admin team: "How can we work smarter and more efficiently?" and within our team. We pride ourselves on having longevity within our team, and part of that comes from taking our time during the interview and onboarding processes rather than hiring just anyone because the demand is there.
Where do you see your business in 5 years?
Having started For the Love of Dogs, LLC at such a young age, I feel that we have already accomplished more than I imagined. Since I have achieved many of my personal business goals, my focus in the next five years is to continue to improve the work-life balance of our sitters and admin team.
What has Time To Pet changed the most about how you run your business?
Before Time To Pet, we were operating on multiple platforms (text chains, email groups, Google Calendar, etc.). It worked but was tedious! Time To Pet has streamlined how we run the business, take payments, and communicate with clients and the team. It's helping us achieve our goal of working smarter and more efficiently!
