What caused you to get into pet sitting/dog walking?
My personal journey into pet care began from a deep-rooted love for animals. Before starting Blue Skies, I had volunteered for the local humane society for over a decade and was a psychology student with emphasis in canine cognition. Back in 2010, I recognized a need in our community for reliable, professional pet care services and was inspired to create Blue Skies Pet Care. This venture allowed me to combine a passion for and knowledge of animals with a commitment to providing peace of mind to pet owners, knowing their furry friends are in loving and experienced hands. Blue Skies Pet Care has evolved significantly since its start. What began a personal mission has grown into a team of devoted, thoroughly vetted professionals who share my dedication to animal welfare. Every team member is a valued employee - not an independent contractor - ensuring consistent, superior care backed by our comprehensive insurance and bonding.
What is the most fulfilling part of owning a pet sitting/dog walking business?
Undoubtedly, the most rewarding aspect of this journey has been the relationships we've cultivated - not just with our furry clients, but with their families as well. There's a unique joy in witnessing the trust and relief in an owner's eyes when they see their pet's happiness and well-being is our top priority. Each wag and purr of contentment reinforces our mission and drives home the impact we're fortunate to make daily in the lives of pets and their people.
What is the most challenging?
The most challenging aspect is managing the unpredictability that comes with caring for a variety of animals, each with their unique personalities, needs, and manners. Ensuring we consistently provide the highest quality of care requires flexibility, ongoing education, and a keen understanding of animal behavior. Additionally, balancing the growth of our business while maintaining the personal touch that sets us apart is a continuous process. We strive to meet these challenges head-on, viewing them as opportunities to improve and expand our services.
Where do you see your business in 5 years?
In the next five years, we envision Blue Skies Pet Care to continue expanding its presence within and beyond Newton, KS, particularly in offering our specialized dog training services to the wider central Kansas area. We aim to grow our team of passionate pet care professionals, enabling us to support more pet families while continuing to provide the personalized care that is our hallmark. We also plan to integrate more technology-driven solutions to enhance our service offerings and customer experience. Ultimately, our goal is to continue to be recognized as go-to experts for all pet care needs in our community and beyond.
